Renovation/Master-Planning

Master Planning/Renovation Golf Design is played upon a living and constantly evolving environment. In addition, technology is providing both the player and golf course superintendent new equipment that is continuingly changing the game. These factors dictate that golf course renovation is often necessary to achieve the club's goals.

The McDonald Design Group believes the correct way to approach a golf course renovation/restoration is with a comprehensive master plan of proposed improvements. The master plan is a broad vision for the entire facility that accomplishes the following:

  • A master plan educates the club's membership. Through written materials, public presentations, and even golf course tours; the membership becomes aware of the proposed improvements and existing conditions which warrant the renovation.

  • A master plan avoids costly piecemeal improvements that do not provide the golf facility with aesthetic or structural continuity.

  • A master plan outlines an implementation schedule responsive to potential financial restrictions and course disruption.

  • A master plan provides reliable cost projections to aid the club's planning process.

  • A master plan acts as a guiding force of future improvements (perhaps spaced out from five to ten years), even as club officials or staff may change.

Our success with renovation design is due to our extensive interaction with our clients. We insist on an intense exchange of ideas during the beginning phases of the design process. We prefer to formulate an improvement committee comprised of members of varying golfing ability and select club officials. The committee ensures that each segment of the club is represented during the planning and implementation stages of the project.

The McDonald Design Group's only measure of success is the satisfaction of our clients. Our goal is to not leave our mark on the golfing facility, but to develop and enhance the client's goals for the renovation project, producing a project that greatly exceeds their expectations.
